Short answer
Box truck freight shows up in two kinds of places. The first is the regular freight load boards, where you search van or straight box equipment and cut the results by weight and length: DAT and 123Loadboard both describe how on their own sites. The second is delivery apps such as Bungii and Frayt, which assign jobs inside their own network and set their own truck, authority and insurance requirements. Boards give you more choice and more phone work. Apps give you less negotiation and less control over the rate.
A 26 ft box truck rated under the 26,001 pound CDL line can be run without a CDL, and once the authority is active the next question is where the loads are posted. This guide covers what the main boards and apps say on their own sites about box truck freight, checked on November 2, 2026. It does not rank them, because none of them publishes how many box truck loads it carries. If you are still setting up the company, start with how to start a box truck business, which covers the weight lines, authority and insurance.
Load boards: box truck freight hides under van
Not every board has a box truck equipment type, so the search usually starts from what the board does have: straight box where it exists, otherwise van, partial and full, with the maximum weight set to what your truck can carry and the length set to your box. Here is what each board says on its own site.
DAT
DAT’s load board page for straight trucks says you can view specialized listings with custom filters, and that every package has a flat monthly rate. A guide on box truck loads from Trucker Tools, which points readers to DAT One, gives the practical version: post your truck with a starting rate, search the van equipment type and filter by weight, use the radius search to stay near your truck, and check broker credit scores and days to pay before you book. On the broker side, a DAT page dated June 30, 2025 says box trucks, hot shots and sprinter vans are now supported in DAT One.
123Loadboard
123Loadboard lists Straight Box (SB), Cargo Van (CV) and Moving Van (MV) among its equipment types. Its help video for box trucks is aimed at straight box trucks, cube vans and moving vans from 10 to 26 feet, and says the search can be narrowed by trailer specs, size, weight and length.
Truckstop
The public load search on the Truckstop home page offers Any, Flatbed, Van, Reefer, Specialized and Hot Shot as equipment types. There is no box truck option in that list, so a box truck search there starts from Van with your own weight and length limits.
Free boards
PickaTruckLoad says searching and posting are free and that it sends daily load emails by truck type. Trucker Path says its board is free and lists 150,000 available loads posted daily. Neither home page says how many of those loads fit a box truck. Test before you rely on one: run your home lane for a week and count the loads under your weight and length.
Delivery apps: jobs inside a closed network
Delivery apps work differently from boards. You apply once, the platform checks your truck and paperwork, and jobs are offered to you inside the app. There is no broker to call. In exchange, the platform sets the requirements, and you work at the rate it offers. Two examples, from their own driver pages:
| App | Box truck requirements (site, Nov 2) | Insurance asked for |
|---|---|---|
| Bungii | GVWR of 26,000 lb or less, a pallet jack, active USDOT number, age 21+, clean record, satisfactory FMCSA safety rating | $750,000 liability, $50,000 cargo |
| Frayt | 12 to 26 ft box truck over 10,000 GVW, active DOT number and carrier permit, age 21+ | $1,000,000 auto liability, $100,000 cargo |
Both also take smaller vehicles under other rules: Bungii lists pickups, cargo vans and trailers, and Frayt puts cargo vans and small box trucks under 10,000 GVW in a separate class. Check that your market is open before you apply. Frayt says not all areas need all types of drivers at the same time.
Boards or apps: what changes for you
| Load boards | Delivery apps | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the rate | You and the broker | The platform |
| Phone and paperwork | You call, negotiate, send packets | Handled in the app |
| Requirements | Each broker’s carrier packet | One set per platform |
You can run both: an app to fill a slow day near home, a board for the longer run that repositions the truck. The weak spot is the gap after the delivery, and why a box truck week stalls between reloads covers that side.
Build the search from your truck, not the board
- Payload. GVWR minus the empty weight of the truck with fuel, driver and equipment. That number goes in the weight filter.
- Box length and door height. Long freight and tall pallets rule out loads that look fine by weight.
- Liftgate and pallet jack. Bungii asks box trucks for a pallet jack, and Frayt lists a lift gate as preferred. 123Loadboard lists lift-gate (LG) as an equipment option.
- Your insurance limits. If a broker or app asks for $100,000 cargo and you carry less, the load is not yours.
- Where you want to end up. Search the reload city before you book the first load.

Frequently asked questions
Which load boards have box truck loads?
DAT and 123Loadboard both describe box truck searches on their own sites. 123Loadboard has a Straight Box (SB) equipment type. On DAT, a Trucker Tools guide suggests searching van and filtering by weight. Truckstop’s public search has no box truck type, so you start from Van.
What equipment type should I search for a 26 ft box truck?
Straight Box where the board has it, otherwise Van, partial and full. Set the maximum weight to your real payload and the length to your box, so the board drops loads that need a 53 ft trailer.
What is the difference between a load board and a delivery app?
On a load board you find a broker’s load, call and negotiate the rate. On a delivery app such as Bungii or Frayt the platform offers you jobs inside its network at its own rate, and you meet its requirements once instead of each broker’s.
What insurance do box truck delivery apps require?
Each sets its own. On November 2, 2026, Bungii’s driver page asked box trucks for $750,000 liability and $50,000 cargo, and Frayt’s asked for $1,000,000 auto liability and $100,000 cargo.
Are there free load boards for box trucks?
PickaTruckLoad and Trucker Path say their boards are free. Neither home page says how many loads fit a box truck, so test one on your own lane before you count on it.
